Child tax credit: Will there be another check in April 2022?

As hundreds of Americans are eager to get more Child tax credits, there are many uncertainties. The big question is whether the government will pay parents another Child tax credit payment this month. The answer is both yes and no.

There have been Facebook posts that show Google’s response to child tax credit payments. There is one section that has been highlighted:

These amounts were paid on the 15th of July through December with a final Child Tax Credit payment coming in April 2022.

The Facebook user writes at the bottom of the post: “Watch that April payout, it’s coming. The comment gives the impression that you will receive another round of payment, but this is not the case.

According to Ryan Doson of Liberty Tax Services, “There is no other child tax credit prepayment. Normally you would only get your child tax credit when you file your taxes and that’s different this year. You got half of it early and the other half when you file your tax return.”

The key here is that the April 2022 “payment” is credited to you when you file your taxes and claim the credit, which often results in a refund.

More checks to come

Because you received part of your refund in the form of Advanced child tax payments in July, August, September, October, November and December, your refund will most likely be lower this year.

To remember, tax day is not April 15, 2022; it’s April 18, 2022, the Monday after Easter. You don’t want to miss the deadline, especially if you’re behind on payments.

If you owe $4,000 and decide not to produce because you don’t have the money, you’ll owe $5,000 by September, so even if you can’t pay, the best thing to do is produce this tax return anyway. Remember that a deposit extension is different from a payment extension.
